The 41st Ramanadham Memorial lecture was delivered by Professor (Emeritus) Utsa Patnaik, formerly with Centre for Economic Studies and Planning at Jawahar Lal Nehru University on October 3rd, 2026.
Title of her lecture “Work, Income, Rights in the Dying Age of Neo-Liberalism” brings into focus Utsa’s abiding interest and scholarship on people of India. Informed by her meticulous analysis of debate on measuring poverty, the fraudulent logic in methodology adopted for measuring poverty she shows how all this is linked to masking real inequalities and shrinking employment opportunities by fall in net incomes. This impacts all sections of the people, urban as well as rural, workers and middle, small and poor farmers, women as well as men. The question-answer session which followed helps further to dispel many a dishonest projection of well-being and progress.
