Peoples Union for Democratic Rights

Press Statement

18.5.2010

PUDR strongly condemns the recent CPI (Maoist) attacked targeting a local passenger bus resulting in the indiscriminate killing of 11 SPOs and 24 civilians in Dantewada. We also strongly condemn the state to allow its security personnel to board on civilian bus whereby civilian population are used as human shield. Such acts whereby civilians fall victim are unacceptable and irresponsible (both sides).

PUDR has repeatedly emphasised the unacceptability of IED as a counter strategy against targets where non-combatants’ lives are at risk. Such attacks make things worse for the common people whose cause the CPI (Maoist) seeks to represent.

(Such anti-people acts will rationalise the increase deployment of security forces and its operation) Incidents such as these are anti-people in the long run as not only do they rationalise the strident argument made by the State favouring increased deployment of forces and military power making (caught the common people between CPI (Maoist) and security forces) things worse for the common people, but also lead to an escalation of tensions between communities.
